A nonpartisan group found the job losses and furloughs from the shut down of non-essential businesses is having a big impact on lower-wage workers.
Wisconsin Policy Forum Research Director Jason Stein says bars, restaurants, and retail are among the hardest-hit industries. He says the people filling those jobs tend to be more vulnerable than the average worker in the economy. He believes it raises a lot of concerns about what it’s doing to their families and finances.
Stein says those impacted workers are also more likely to be women, minorities, and people without a college degree.
The group also found that communities that rely heavily on tourism are facing the biggest challenges.
