The redesigned Jones Park in downtown Appleton is opening.
City leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony over the noon hour.
The park has been closed for nearly three years for the construction of the Fox Cities Exhibition Center, and to revamp the park itself.
Mayor Tim Hanna says there’s a new walkway from Lawrence Street, and if people veer to the left, they’ll see the new amphitheater. He says Miron Construction donated the amphitheater to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary.
Hanna says there’s also a new pavilion that will double as a warming shelter for two ice rinks during the winter. One will be for families, and the other will be for hockey.
There’s also a new playground.
The first big event is this weekend, with Mile of Music concerts on Friday and Saturday.
