GREEN BAY, WI — Brown County residents are being warned of a scam involving claims of missed jury duty. Brown County Clerk of Courts John Vander Leest says callers claiming to be law enforcement officers are calling residents saying records show the individuals called missed jury duty. They must now either turn themselves over to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for arrest or mail cash payments or prepaid gift cards. Vander Leest warms it’s “100-percent a scam” and residents should not fall for it. He adds there is “no situation where it would be necessary for residents to mail cash or gift cards for missing jury duty.” Potential jurors will always receive a summons via mail and detailed instructions to follow. Anyone scammed should contact their local police department.
