The City of Kaukauna is officially asking Outagamie County to use money from the half-cent sales tax to pay for outdoor warning sirens.
Mayor Tony Penterman hopes other communities follow suit.
The county wants communities to take over the maintenance of sirens and cover the cost of replacing them. Penterman thinks the county should be responsible for that since it’s a county-wide system.
There are 10 sirens in Appleton and members of the city council will start taking up the issue next week.
