Six schools in the Oshkosh district could be closing in the future.
Deputy Superintendent David Gunlach says right now they have 20 schools, and they’re looking to reconfigure. He says having 14 would be about the right size for a district with about 10,000 kids.
In the first phase, Merrill and Washington Elementaries would be shut down, along with Webster-Stanley Middle School. Those middle school students would go to an expanded or new Merrill Middle School.
The current Webster-Stanley complex would be renovated into a larger elementary school.
The second phase calls for the closure of Roosevelt and Shapiro STEM Elementaries, and Perry Tipler Middle School. The majority of Tipler students would move to an expanded South Park Middle School.
The school board will talk about the proposals, and consider a potential referendum.
