Majority Republicans in the Legislature are sending some tax cuts to Governor Evers.
The Senate and Assembly approved the nearly $400 million package.
It’s not known if Evers will veto it. He wanted lawmakers to use some of the projected budget surplus to give public schools an additional $250 million. The governor also called for lowering school property taxes by $130 million.
Republican Rep. Shannon Zimmerman of River Falls pushed for the tax cut. He thinks government would never spend that money better than people would.
Democratic Rep. Lisa Subeck of Madison believes the focus needs to be placed back on children and education.
The GOP plan would cut income taxes for the middle class by $250 million. Personal property taxes would go down by $45 million. Another $100 million would be used to reduce debt.
