Volunteers across the state are working to make high-demand face masks for health care workers.
Carol Bruess in De Pere is coordinating a local Facebook group called Masks for Green Bay. She says they won’t replace the medical-grade N-95 masks, but they do serve a purpose.
She’s experimenting with coffee filters, and the lining of a vacuum bag, because they keep out a significant percentage of particles.
Heather Augustyn of Antigo is organizing another Facebook group called Wisconsin Face Mask Warriors. She says sewers can find a pattern to copy, so they’re making something useful.
She says non-sewers can help by offering to cut fabric, buy supplies, or deliver them.
