News » Support program for former inmates expands

Aug. 11, 2009
The state's corrections department is giving $22,000 to a local program that helps people adapt to life after serving a prison sentence.

Danel Burchby is the coordinator of the Circles of Support program, which serves the Green Bay, Fox Cities and Oshkosh areas.  She says they assist the former inmates by helping them make good choices, find the resources that they need to adapt to life outside of prison, and become productive members of society.

She says the program has more than doubled in the past year, growing from four to nine support circles.  But she says there is a much larger need in the community.

Burchby says they are looking for volunteers and donations that would help expand the program.
