News » G.B. police arrest nearly 1,300 for OWI in 2009

Feb. 4, 2010
The Green Bay police department is recognizing an officer for making the most drunk driving arrests last year.

Lt. Jim Runge says this is the second year in a row that Officer Sean Hammill won the Ashley Knetzger OWI award. He arrested 94 suspected drunken drivers in 2009.

The award is named after the daughter of a Green Bay police officer who was killed by an intoxicated driver in 2008.  Knetzger was also a graduate of Fox Valley Lutheran high school.

Runge says the department made nearly 1,300 OWI arrests last year.  He says the numbers are high because of an enforcement campaigned aimed at late-night drunken drivers.
