News » Police seek help in sexual assault investigation

Mar. 12, 2010
Grand Chute police are asking people to help them catch a suspect in a sexual assault investigation.

Authorities have a video that shows the man walking out of the Target store at the Fox River Mall.

A 13-year-old girl told police the man claimed to be an Appleton police officer, and he followed the teen and a friend inside the store. Detective Mike Velie says when they left, the man followed and accused one of the girls of shoplifting. He says the suspect took the girl behind a dumpster and sexually assaulted her.

Velie says stranger-on-stranger assaults are very rare, and they're using all of their resources to try to track down the suspect.

Velie says they haven't heard of any similar incidents in the area. Police have confirmed that the man is not an Appleton police officer.
