News » Schools would have tough time buying laptops

Aug. 31, 2010
St. Mary's Central high school is the first in northeast Wisconsin to provide laptops for every student, but don't expect public schools to follow suit anytime soon, given their budget issues.

Miles Turner is the executive director of the Wisconsin Association of School Administrators, and he says they just don't have the money to aggressively improve technology.

Turner says today's young people are definitely ahead of the curve when it comes to using technology.

St. Mary's Central in the town of Menasha is leasing the laptops to students for a fee that's added onto their tuition. Freshmen at the school got their laptops yesterday, during orientation.
