News » 2009 a bad year for domestic violence

Jan. 6, 2010
The number of most violent crimes committed in Wisconsin dropped last year, but a group says the number of domestic homicides in Wisconsin rose significantly.

The Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence says domestic violence led to 59 deaths in 2009. That's up from 36  in 2008.  Beth Schnorr of Harbor House in Appleton says there was one murder in our area last year, and a lot of abuse cases.

Schnorr says their shelter was over capacity for more than half of the year.

Schnorr says even though the Fox Valley is a great place to live, there is a serious domestic violence problem.
