News » 32nd Infantry completes mission in Iraq

Jan. 8, 2010
The next mission for more than 3,000 Wisconsin National Guard solders is to return home.

Lt. Col. Jackie Guthrie says members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade Combat team were officially finished with their main duties in Iraq yesterday. She says now they're all making their way to Kuwait, where their units will catch flights to Wisconsin.

The first unit, from Fort Atkinson, arrived in Wisconsin earlier this week. Guthrie says the remaining soldiers will return to the state throughout the month.

The troops spent several months in Iraq, as part of the Wisconsin National Guard's largest combat-related deployment since World War II. Members of the Appleton-based 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry were a part of the mission.
