News » Doyle focuses on jobs in 'State of State' speech

Jan. 27, 2010
Governor Doyle says during his last year in office, nothing is more important than helping business create jobs and helping workers get those jobs.

During his State of the State speech last night, he said the state has some of the strongest economic development tools in the country.

He says the battle to keep Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac is proof that tax credits and incentives can help manufacturers retain and create jobs.

The governor also urged lawmakers to approve his Clean Energy bill. He wants the state to generate 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2025. He says the state can create 15,000 new positions by doing that, adding that people who don't see that need to open their eyes.

Last night's speech was the governor's final State of the State address.
