News » Appleton, Grand Chute police eye collaborations

Jan. 29, 2010
The police chiefs in Appleton and Grand Chute have ideas on how the departments can collaborate.

Merger talks were put on the shelf late last year, but Appleton police chief Dave Walsh sat down  with interim Grand Chute chief Greg Peterson to look for ways they can still work together.

Walsh wants to set up a system to send the closest officers to emergency calls, no matter what department they're from. He Walsh says they could combine their crime scene units to save money and share expertise.

Under the third proposal, the school liaison officers from both departments would work together.

Walsh presented the ideas to the city's safety and licensing committee last night. The city council and town board would have to agree to the proposals.
