News » Hwy. 172 construction starts today
Feb. 1, 2010 Construction is scheduled to start today on a stretch of Hwy. 172 in Green Bay.
The busy highway was a construction zone last year, and crews are going to be back this year, to work on a 5½-mile stretch between Hwy. 41 and Webster Avenue. Officials from the state department of transportation say only one eastbound lane will be open during construction, and two on the westbound side of the highway.
About 85,000 vehicles use Hwy. 172 every day, and officials are urging people to find alternate routes.
There will also be some closures at interchanges -- the north loop ramp from Riverside Drive to Hwy. 172 West, and the south connector from Riverside Drive to Webster Avenue will be shut down until the end of July.
Starting tomorrow, the ramp from Hwy. 41 North to Hwy. 172 East, and the Vanderperren Road on and off ramps from Hwy. 172 East, will be closed. |
