News » Per diem totals released for state lawmakers
Feb. 1, 2010 Two members of the assembly -- one Democrat...and one Republican -- tied for the most per-diem days that state lawmakers from northeast Wisconsin claimed last year.
Reps. Ted Zigmunt of Francis Creek and Phil Montgomery of Ashwaubenon each filed for 137 days. Lawmakers get $88 in per diem for every day they spend in Madison.
For Montgomery and Zigmunt, that turned into just over $12,000 each.
Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign says per diem is a sore spot for some taxpayers.
Rep. Roger Roth of Grand Chute claimed the fewest days -- 48 -- but he also spent a few months on active duty with the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
Rep. Karl VanRoy of Green Bay had the second-lowest total for a lawmaker from northeast Wisconsin, with 60 days. He received almost $5,300 in per diem payments.
