News » Open enrollment period under way

Feb. 1, 2010
Parents who want to move their children from one school district to another, without paying additional tuition, need to act fast.

Patrick Gasper of the state department of public instruction says starting today, parents can apply for open enrollment. The signup period ends Feb. 19. After that time, families who opt for open enrollment will pay additional tuition.

Gasper says there are many reasons for open enrollment, and it isn't necessarily an indictment of the district families are choosing to leave behind. He says some districts may offer special programs that the family wants to take advantage of.

Open enrollment applications can be completed on-line at the department of public instruction's Web site.
