News » LU prof. reacts to 8th Dist. fundraising numbers

Feb. 2, 2010
Some early campaign fundraising numbers are in for the Republicans vying for the eighth congressional district seat.

Two candidates finished in a nearly dead heat when it comes to bringing in cash. State Rep. Roger Roth of Grand Chute collected $53,000, while former Kaukauna roofing contractor Reid Ribble raised $52,000.

Retired Green Bay doctor Marc Trager brought in about $46,000 and former State Rep. Terri McCormick got about $35,000.

Lawrence University political science professor Arnold Shober says the split in donations isn't surprising. He says Republicans haven't decided yet which candidate has the best chance to beat Congressman Steve Kagen.

Shober says Republicans will eventually make their choice, and that candidate's fundraising totals will be closer to Kagen's. The Appleton democrat raised about as much in the fourth quarter as the top three Republicans combined -- $152,000.
