News » Abuse victims warned about on-line networking

Feb. 2, 2010
Domestic abuse victims who are trying to stay away from their abusers face increasing challenges with the growing popularity of on-line social networking.

Vicki Berenson is the technology coordinator for the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She says abusers can use Web sites like Facebook to track victims, through their friends.

She says they can also try to track someone by infecting their computer with a virus that gives them remote access to the computer.

Berenson says victims also need to make sure they know how much information they're making available to the general public, by checking the privacy settings on social networking sites.
