News » Ellis concerned about upcoming budget gap
Feb. 3, 2010 A Neenah lawmaker is concerned about another looming state budget deficit.
Sen. Mike Ellis says according to the latest projections, the state will face a budget gap of at least $2.3 billion . He says that's nothing new, because deficits date back to the days of Republican governor Scott McCallum, and both political parties are to blame.
The Neenah Republican says tax revenues would have to climb by 8.9 percent by June of next year in order to offset the budget gap.
The deficit has been worse in the past. The last budget was more than $6.5 billion in the hole, and Governor Doyle's first spending plan had a deficit of $3.2 billion. |
