News » Cowles calls for renewable energy audit

Feb. 3, 2010
A Green Bay lawmaker wants the state's audit bureau to investigate whether utilities are charging the state too much for renewable energy.

Senator Rob Cowles co-authored a bill that requires the state to get 20 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2015.  He says the state is about halfway to that goal.

But he says the utilities the state is contracting with are charging more than the going rate for renewable energy.  He says so far it looks like the state paid $1.7 million too much.

Cowles wants the audit bureau to look at the contracts to make sure the state is getting the best deal possible.
