News » Woman seriously hurt in Hwy. 44 crash

Feb. 11, 2010
A portion of Hwy. 44 in Winnebago County was closed for several hours this morning after a car crossed the center line and hit a semi head-on.

Sgt. Jeff Nelson of the State Patrol says a 22-year-old Algoma woman was seriously hurt in the crash that happened shortly after 7 a.m.  Theda Star flew her to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.  Nelson says the semi driver wasn't hurt.

Nelson says investigators aren't sure why the woman crossed the center line.  The semi driver told them that she appeared to swerve for no reason, and he didn't even have time to break before they collided.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Nelson didn't know the woman's condition.
