Feb. 11, 2010 A 33-year-old town of Menasha man is pleading no contest to charges that the tried to kill his family.
Ryan Michalkiewicz reached a plea deal with prosecutors today, and Winnebago County judge William Carver convicted him of one count of attempted murder and two counts of second-degree reckless endangerment.
Prosecutor Scott Ceman says Michalkiewicz could face up to 80 years in prison when he's sentenced on March 18th. He says he won't ask for a longer sentence than the department of correction recommends in its pre-sentence investigation.
Court records say Michalkiewicz battered and strangled his estranged wife last December. While she was unconscious, he's accused of putting her and their two children in a van, and letting the van run for about an hour with the garage door closed.
The woman eventually came to, and they went back inside the house. |
