News » Cheese could become 'official state snack'
Feb. 11, 2010 Some middle school students first came up with the idea a few years ago, and state lawmakers are taking up their proposal to make cheese the state's "official snack."
Sen. Jim Sullivan of Wauwatosa is sponsoring the bill. He says it would affirm that Wisconsin is the nation's true "Dairy State."
Students from Saint Joseph's middle school in Wauwatosa also testified during a public hearing at the Capitol yesterday.
If lawmakers approve the designation, cheese would join 26 other official state symbols, including milk as the state beverage, cranberry as the state fruit, and polka as the state dance. |
