News » Spearfishing season opens tomorrow
Feb. 12, 2010 Water conditions shouldn't hamper spear fishermen when they head out on Lake Winnebago tomorrow, for the start of the sturgeon season.
Ron Bruch is the DNR's Sturgeon Coordiantor. He says there are some cloudy areas in the lake, but much of it is clear down to the bottom. He says sunny conditions will help.
Bruch says it could be a good year for harvesting big sturgeon. He says spear fishermen will likely harvest several fish over 100 pounds.
The season will continue for 16 days or until harvest caps are hit. That would happen when spear fishermen register 350 juvenile sturgeon, 740 adult females, or 1,000 males. |
