News » 'Brain to 5' series features workshop for parents

Feb. 19, 2010
A program that promotes early education is taking a more hands-on approach this year.

Julie Krause is the executive director of the Appleton Education Foundation, and she says they're planning a workshop for parents and their young children next Saturday, Feb. 27.

She says they're going to stress the importance of simple activities, like "lap reading," music making and playing.

The workshop will be at Highlands elementary school, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

In past years, the focus of the "Brain to Five" series has been on bringing speakers from UW-Madison's Waisman Center to Appleton. Organizers are still going to do that, but on a smaller scale. They're planning to bring in two researchers, in March and May, to hold community forums on early learning topics.
