News » Smoking ban supporters OK with loophole

Feb. 19, 2010
One of the groups that fought for a strong statewide ban isn't worried about a loophole that allows bars to build separate smoking rooms, similar to a three-season porch.

Wendy Weyenberg of Community Action for Healthy Living says at least 25 percent of two of the room's walls have to be covered by open windows.

She says smoking bans in neighboring states also allow the smoking rooms, and they haven't reported any problems.

Weyenberg says her group will be distributing information to area bars closer to the July 5 implementation of the smoking ban, to make sure that they know the rules.
