News » Five police chiefs taking 'Polar Plunge'

Feb. 19, 2010
Some of the area's leading "Men in Blue" might actually be a little "blue" tonight.

Neenah police chief Kevin Wilkinson and four other chiefs are jumping into Lake Winnebago in Oshkosh, as part of the annual Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. He says he signed up, and then decided to ask some of his colleagues from around the area to join him.

Wilkinson says when he recruited his fellow chiefs, he heard a variety of answers, from "No Way" to "That sounds great."

He says the chiefs in Appleton, Hortonville, Wrightstown and Oshkosh agreed to take the plunge. Wilkinson says Winnebago County district attorney Christian Gossett is also jumping in.

They're actually taking the plunge tonight, as part of the opening ceremonies for the event. The main polar plunge is tomorrow, from noon to 3 p.m., at Menominee Park in Oshkosh.
