News » Appleton vies for Google project
Feb. 24, 2010 Appleton officials want the city to be a test market for a Google's high-speed Internet project.
The project would involve creating a fiber-optic network that could provide Internet speeds that are 100 times faster that what's currently available.
Karen Harkness is the city's community development director. She says becoming a test city could lure new businesses to the city.
Harkness says the city is holding a public hearing on the idea on March 8, so Google can gauge community support for the project.
She isn't sure how many communities will be chosen to test the new technology. |
