News » WI lawmaker wants to limit gov's veto
Mar. 1, 2010 Nearly two years ago Wisconsin voters passed a referendum to prohibit the governor from using his veto pen to combine sentences to change the meaning of a bill.
Now a state lawmaker wants to take it a step farther. Senator Fred Risser says the governor shouldn't be able to delete parts of a sentence. The Madison Democrat says that power has resulted in drastic changes to legislation.
Risser says his proposal would limit the governor's partial veto power to striking entire sentences from a bill.
Risser's proposal would have to pass two consecutive Legislatures and a statewide referendum to become law. |
