News » Schmidt murder trial starts today
Mar. 5, 2010 A jury of 10 men and five women will decide the murder case of a former Appleton firefighter.
39-year-old Scott Schmidt is standing trial, starting this morning, on accusations that he killed his estranged wife outside of her Grand Chute home last April.
A jury form Portage County is hearing the case because of pre-trial publicity.
Outagamie County judge John Des Jardins oversaw the jury selection process in Stevens Point yesterday. Members of the panel will be bussed to and from Appleton each day.
Schmidt is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the death of Kelly Wing Schmidt and attempted murder, for wounding her mother, Barbara Wing.
Opening statements are scheduled for this morning at the Outagamie County justice center. |
