News » Outagamie Co. joins statewide VINE network

Mar. 24, 2010
For nearly a decade, Outagamie County has independently run a program that notifies victims when a prisoner is released from jail, but now it's joining a statewide network.

Outagamie County Sheriff Brad Gehring says the larger network will make it easier for victims to sign up for the notification if they aren't from the area.

Stephanie Jens is a victim-witness coordinator for Outagamie County's district attorney's office.  She says victims benefit from the program.

The program costs Outagamie County $17,000 a year to run.  Pamela Brandon of the state corrections department runs the statewide VINE program.  She says they're hoping the legislature will fund the statewide system.

More than half of the state's counties are already part of the program.
