News » Nelson: AG can't challenge health care reforms
Mar. 26, 2010 A leader in the state legislature says the attorney general won't get a chance to challenge a federal health insurance mandate.
Republican attorney general J.B Van Hollen formally asked for the authority to pursue a lawsuit that would challenge a national requirement that everyone buy health insurance.
Assembly Majority Leader Tom Nelson of Kaukauna says the national Republican party and insurance companies are trying to stop the will of the people, and Majority Democrats won't go along with it.
In order to challenge the mandate, Van Hollen needs permission from the governor or one house of the legislature. All are controlled by democrats.
Governor Doyle shot down Van Hollen's request yesterday, calling the lawsuit "frivolous." |
