News » Study shows impact of charitable organizations
Sept. 30, 2010 Organizations like Thrivent Financial and the Knights of Columbus have a major community impact when the economy struggles.
That's the finding of a study by Georgetown University. Thrivent Financial Vice President Rick Kleven says together, the groups raise about $3.4 billion a year to help people in need.
He says that money can be used to fund national programs, like Habitat for Humanity, or to help individual families that have fallen on hard times.
Kleven says they play an important role in the community because it's a role that government can't easily fill.
Kleven says their programs are more important during an economic downturn because there are more people who need some help, but less charitable money to go around. |
