News » UW-System identifies least popular majors
Feb. 8, 2010 UW-System administrators are tracking which majors are the least popular on campuses around the state, and which programs are offered by most of the schools.
System spokesman David Giroux says a new report lists the programs that had 50 or fewer graduates over a 10-year period. He says some of those majors are only available at a few UW-System schools, and they don't want to limit access to certain programs, if students need to stay closer to home.
At UW-Green Bay, the philosophy, earth science, German and French majors didn't have more than 50 graduates. At UW-Oshkosh, the list included art, French, German, earth science, and management.
Giroux says they didn't track "minors" and a number of students choose to "minor" in a foreign language. He says that's because the ability to speak foreign language can make them more marketable once they graduate.
The Urban Planning program at UW-Oshkosh also made the list, but the school is the only one in the UW-System to offer it. |
