News » Utility reacts to wind farm citing rules

Aug. 31, 2010
The state's public service commission is implementing new statewide standards for building wind turbines.

In the past, the issue was handled by local governments for smaller scale projects, but that changed when some areas tried to keep them out completely.

We Energies spokesman Brian Manthey says the rules create a level playing field, and let developers know what they'll have to deal with.

Manthey says the rules should also ease community concerns about the impact of wind turbines because of all the research that went into creating the rules.

Two wind farm projects are currently in the planning stages in our area.  One is in Calumet County and the other is in Brown County.

The state's public service commission approved the statewide standards yesterday.
