News » New regulations for MMA in place
Feb. 5, 2010 Mixed Martial Arts is a rapidly growing sport, and Wisconsin is putting regulations in place for fights that take place in the state.
Sen. Dave Hansen is the co-author of a bill that Governor Doyle signed yesterday. The Green Bay Democrat says the rules are nearly identical to what is already in place for boxers, and they'll protect fighters and promoters.
Hansen says the major MMA organization, the UFC, wouldn't host fights in Wisconsin because the state didn't have any regulations on the books. He hopes venues like the Resch Center in Green Bay could compete to bring in high-profile events. |
