News » Ban on putting electronics in trash starts Wed.

Aug. 30, 2010
Once a new state law takes effect on Wednesday, people will no longer be allowed to throw their old electronics in the garbage.

Appleton public works deputy director Nate Loper says they'll have to be recycled, but they can't go with paper, glass, or other household recyclables.

He says people can take them to the Outagamie County recycling center, or drop them off at many area electronics stores.

Loper says city crews won't pick up any electronics that are placed in the trash, and they'll tag items with a warning to properly dispose of them within 48 hours.

He says if that doesn't happen, city crews will pick up the item, for a charge of at least $40.
