News » Teens learn about leadership in Appleton

Feb. 5, 2010
Freshmen from more than a dozen high schools in the Fox Valley gathered in downtown Appleton yesterday to learn what it takes to become a leader.

About 300 students participated in the Teen Symposium sponsored by the United Way and the YMCA.

Carl Olson was the keynote speaker, and he says it's not that complicated to become successful. He says developing leadership skills in freshmen is a good idea, because they can use them throughout the rest of their high school career.

Organizers also put together a volunteer fair, so students could learn about different non-profit agencies in the area.
