News » Four Appleton schools receive state award again

Sept. 1, 2010
Four elementary schools in Appleton are receiving an award from the state again this year.

Horizons and Edison elementaries are a "Wisconsin School of Recognition" for the third year in a row, while Highlands and Badger elementaries are getting the honor for the second straight year.

In order to qualify, schools have to have a certain number of low-income students and above-average test scores.

Val Drier is the principal at Highlands, and she says it shows that they're on the right track and they're making progress in education all of the students.

Horizons principal Karen Brice says it's a good way to start the new school year.

Menasha's Jefferson elementary school also received the award for the second straight year. Four elementary schools in Green Bay were singled out for the first time -- Beaumont, Chappell, Kennedy and Lincoln.
