News » High-speed chase follows 911 call
Sept. 7, 2010 Green Bay police officers weren't sure what they had on their hands when a 911 call came in early this morning.
The caller reported seeing two men push a woman into a van, around 3 a.m., near the Shell gas station in the 1100 block of Radisson Street. Cpt. Todd Thomas says officers didn't find anything, but nearly an hour later, an off-duty cop spotted the van traveling at a high rate of speed on the Tillman Bridge.
After a 30-minute chase that reached speeds around 120 miles an hour, Thomas says they were able to stop the vehicle with the help of the Shawano County sheriff's department, in the city of Shawano.
Thomas says during the chase, 33-year-old Michael Brabbs of Green Bay called 911 and told dispatchers that he had already killed one man. He says the suspect was threatening to kill the woman and said that he had a bomb in the van.
Thomas says there was only one man in the van and they're still investigating whether two men were involved. A Green Bay police dog helped make the arrest.
Brabbs is in jail on a handful of charges, including his fifth-offense drunk driving, eluding police and reckless endangerment.
Thomas says the 21-year-old woman wasn't cooperating with investigators. He says they know they are not dealing with a carjacking or kidnapping. |
