News » Oshkosh school board dealing with surplus

Aug. 30, 2010
The district has a $3 million budget surplus, and members of the Oshkosh school board aren't going to make a quick decision on what to do with the extra money.

Board president John Lemberger says he wants administrators to focus on getting the school year started on the right foot, instead of putting together different possibilities for the money.

Lemberger says they just found out about the surplus late last week during a school board retreat.

Lemberger says it's certainly better to have a surplus than the situation the district faced last year, having to cut $5.5 million.

District leaders say they have a surplus this year, thanks to cost-saving measures at the various schools, lower heating costs last winter and additional revenues.
