News » Health bill could lower premiums

Feb. 8, 2010
Insurers could offer lower premiums to people who are trying to quit smoking, lose weight, or participate in another kind of wellness program, under bill working its way through the legislature.

Rep. Ted Zigmunt says right now they can't advertise or offer discounts for wellness programs.

The Francis Creek Democrat says premium discounts would save employees money.  He says healthier workers would also lead to more production for employers, and fewer claims to pay for the insurance provider.

An Assembly committee will hold a hearing on the bill on Thursday.
