News » Lawrence spreading suicide prevention efforts

Feb. 8, 2010
Lawrence University is spreading its suicide prevention efforts to the community.

The school received a $300,000 grant last year to train staff to watch for the signs of suicide on campus.  Lawrence officials announced today that they're also getting $25,000 from the J.J. Keller Foundation to train officials in area school districts.

Spokeswoman Jenna Stone says it's important for people who have close contact with children to know if they're having problems.

She says they'll start the training sessions in March, and they'll continue through the summer.

Lawrence officials say they want to train school officials as quickly as possible, following a number of suicide attempts by students who attend area schools.
