News » State near national average for school spending

Sept. 2, 2010
Wisconsin is falling toward the national average when it comes to spending on education.

The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families crunched the numbers and found that per-pupil spending in the state increased by nearly eight percent from 2000 to 2008.

That compares to almost 18 percent nationally, and it drops Wisconsin's rank from 11th to 18th.

The group's Jon Peacock led the study, and he says the student-to-teacher ratio in Wisconsin is also closer to the national average. Wisconsin now ranks 29th in student-to-teacher ratios.
