"Howz Yer Weekend?"
May 21, 2012 9:35 am

So "Howz Yer Weekend?"
Time to talk weekend on the PhilCast this Monday. Please call in and chat about yours and then I'll tell you about mine, which included not only putting our boat in, but actually USING it! The old 1968 Crestliner fired up and ran so good we were able to take Handy Andy on his first-ever tube adventure.

The only problem was that the sly dog out-foxed me. As he grew more confident with himself back there my plan was of course to nail it and dump him right in front of the people watching at our place. He jumped tube before I could ever do it. Smart guy...knows me too well I guess.

Call 281-1150 or toll free on the Red Ox PhilPhone at 1-866-887-1150 to chat about YOUR weekend.

RAINing on Friday PhilCast
May 18, 2012 9:21 am

The drummer with the internationally-known Beatles tribute band RAIN who has Wisconsin ties will join me on the PhilCast today in the first hour.

I saw these guys earlier this spring when they played Milwaukee and it was a fantastic show.

If you like the Beatles at all I would suggest getting to the PAC in Appleton for a show. They're doing three, one Friday night and two on Saturday.

The cool thing about the concert is that RAIN both sounds and LOOKS just like the Beatles, and they walk through the various stages of the legendary band, from Ed Sullivan video clips to feeling like you are at Shea Stadium's concert, to the psychedelic Beatles when they perform songs the Beatles never did live. In fact, RAIN has been together longer than the actual Beatles. It should be a fun interview and a solid concert to attend.

Have a great weekend....and don't forget to call in during the 4:00 hour to share "Chadoin' This Weekend?" plans...promote events taking place this weekend...let us know what's up with the PC Family this weekend. And if you can't call in live just post a note on the PhilCast Facebook Fan Page. - Comments

Highway or Freeway?
May 15, 2012 7:57 am

Will someone please tell me what all the fuss is about regarding the future of Highway 41?

All this week public meetings are being held to talk about the advantages of making the biggest route into our neck of the woods a freeway rather than a highway.

Now aside from the cost of putting up those green and white signs telling travelers they're on a freeway (at a cost to taxpayers) what's the big diff? Why bother? Isn't HIGHWAY 41 already for the most part to the standards of what a freeway is anyway?

Tomorrow there will be a meeting here in the Fox Valley about this and at some point this week we'll get someone on the PhilCast to talk about making the change. Whoever it is, maybe he or she can change my mind on this because right now I'm not feeling it.

Back in the saddle
May 14, 2012 7:40 am

Well it's back to the old routine today now that my week of being a beach bum has come to an end.

Coming up on the Monday show I'll have a little vacation recap for you, including the funny story about the baby rabbits making progress in my front yard.

Tonight will be a special night for Johnny Carson fans, and I am certainly in that camp. Plus I'll have a story I think you'll be shaking your heads at and saying, "What's wrong with that cop?" when you hear it. Howz Yer Weekend too...share any stories from your Mother's Day weekend with us in the first hour by calling in live or posting them on the PhilCast Facebook fan page. - Comments

"Hippie Tom"
May 4, 2012 8:47 am

"Hippie Tom" from the TV show American Pickers joins me on the PhilCast Friday right after the 3:30 news.
Click Here to see his Facebook page.

I'm a HUGE fan of the show and when Frankie and Mike stop to rummage through a place in Wisconsin it's all the better. Such was the case last season when they dubbed this junk collector from Waterford, WI Hippie Tom.

Then in a later episode they bumped into Hippie Tom at Sturgis. Well, ever since the TV spot Hippie Tom has become somewhat of a celeb.

He has an amazing collection of collections....stuff....junk....treasures....call it what you will.

We'll chat about what it was like being a part of the popular show on the History Channel, and how his life has changed since being dubbed Hippie Tom. - Comments

My yard the zoo
May 3, 2012 9:50 am

So upon arriving home Wednesday night our dog Gabby discovered a rather large hole in the front lawn. Seems she got a bit fired up by the smell of something in there. Sure enough, some baby something-or-others the size of a mouse were squirming around in there. They are obviously newborns about the size of a small mouse, so they can't be baby mice...too big already. I have a guess as to what they are though. I'll talk about it on the Thursday PhilCast show. And in addition to the mama mourning dove still sitting on the nest outside my back door there is a new winged player with another nest just a few feet away now. The animals theme continues on the show today because Neenah city fathers met to talk about new pet restrictions there and Appleton city fathers are putting together plans on what to do about raising chickens in the city.

The pictures from Wednesday's visit to Van Zeeland's Nursery are now posted at the PhilCast Photo Page

Clark & Clunk
May 2, 2012 8:10 am

It's Hump Day on the PhilCast and among other things I've got planned, we'll be talking about Clark Howard today. Clark comes to Appleton next week with WHBY as his host once again.

Dave Edwards of the morning show will be joining us on the PhilCast today to talk about ticket sales for next week's event.

So I figured as long as we're talking Clark I would go into my personal achieves and pull out my classic Clunk Hubbard bit. In a previous radio life there was one time when the Brewers' game ended just a tad early and the afternoon show host said he didn't start until three. So I came up with the idea of taking calls as Clark's cousin to kill a little time.

And listeners started calling too. Funny thing is that Clark visited that station a couple years later and I played this bit for him. He was in tears he was laughing so hard. Clark's a great guy, both on and off the mic from what I have seen of him. So listen for a little classic Clunk Hubbard on the show today.

And we're done at 5:00 today also, making room then for the start of Brewers' pre-game.

The gift that keeps on giving
May 1, 2012 9:02 am

Yes, it's "Tell-a-Friend Tuesday" on the PhilCast, but the open to the show that I usually play for that will have to wait until the 4:00 hour today.

That's because I have a little something special to open the show today since once again, Brett proves he's the gift that just keeps on giving.

And thanks to our PC R&D dept. here ya go...

"Chadoin' This Weekend?"
Apr. 27, 2012 9:35 am

I'll debut the new PhilCast segment I am calling "Chadoin' This Weekend?" on the show Friday afternoon at 4:20-ish. It's a chance for us to all find out about local events taking place. Just call in live and tell us about what you're doing this weekend.

281-1150 or toll free 1-866-887-1150

Can't call and chat about your weekend live? No problem. Just shoot me an email and I'll be reading those as well.

As long as listeners participate I'll make this a regular thing.

Same thing with the Friday PhilCast Facebook Friend of the Week. Nominations now being taken for that. Just post on the PhilCast FB fan page or email on that as well.

Enjoy your weekend. The weather Saturday looks nasty...maybe it's a good time to get caught up on listening to some PhilCast podcasts while working around the house INSIDE.
