A lawmaker from Sun Prairie is trying to make state park passes good for a full year regardless of when they were bought.
Passes are currently only valid in the calendar year they were purchased. Democratic state representative Gary Hebl says more people would use state parks and trails with the new bill.
Hebl says he’s heard that people don’t buy passes later in the year because they have less time to use them. For example, if a pass was purchased in October, people would only have until December to use it.
A spokesman for the state DNR declined to comment on the bill.
