Some Appleton police officers are growing goatees and others have purple hair extensions to support one of their own and raise money.
Sergeant Dave Lund says one of their officers lost a child to a rare medical condition last month. He says while they were battling the condition, the family spent many nights at the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee.
Chief Todd Thomas is waiving the department’s policies for November and December to allow for the goatees and hair extensions. The officers are donating money each month.
The department is also hoping to raise money from the community. Lund says donations can be made directly to the Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee or through the Appleton police department in memory of “Iron Macy.”
