A teen from the Waupaca area reached a plea deal in the shooting death of a friend.
Eighteen-year-old Austin Hovarter entered a no contest plea to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide, after a 15-year-old boy was killed last July.
Prosecutors say he was playing cops and robbers with Jacob Peglow, when Hovarter shot the boy. Peglow was hit in the shoulder at Hovarter’s home, northwest of Waupaca, in the town of Farmington. Peglow died there.
The state justice department got involved in the investigation, and Hovarter was charged about six weeks after the shooting.
He’s scheduled to be sentenced on March 19th. Prosecutors agreed to cap their recommendation at 10 years in prison.
